“Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
IN the light of His glory and grace”
This excerpt is from a famous hymn written in 1918 by Helen Lemmel, and author who wrote about 500 hymns. These melodic words Lemmel wrote were inspired by a tract she was given by a visiting missionary. A tract entitled, Focus, written by Lilias Trotter. In this leaflet Trotter states, “So then turn your eyes upon Him. Look full into HIs face and you will find that the thing of earth will acquire a strange new dimness.”
When looking at the life of Lilias Trotter we see this statement lived out, which is why this month, at Generation Next Ministries, we will be doing just that. We will be looking at the life of Lilias Trotter, the woman who inspired Helen Lemmel to write the beautiful hymn that is Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.
