A Father’s Love

For Father’s Day we have the pleasure of hearing from Sophia Bonasso. In this entry, she shares how her father has impacted the woman she is today, the ways she seeks to emulate him, and how he has and continues to touch her life.
My dad has made me the woman I am today by guiding me in a godly way. He has been my biggest supporter for as long as I can remember and has helped me through the darkest of times. Something significant about him is that we both struggle with OCD. Navigating that throughout my life has been incredibly difficult, but he has been there to help make it more manageable because he understands how hard it is firsthand. He is the most understanding human being and gives the best advice possible. He is the wisest person I know. As I grow into an adult, I look to him in hopes of one day having his empathy and wisdom. Of his many attributes, those are easily my favorite.
My dad is a scientist as well as a philosopher, so he goes about things in a very factual way. I am very emotional, so he balances me out so well. I am a heavy over-thinker, and I always look to him for guidance that will ground me in my anxiety. My dad is my best friend and role model. I pray that I am an incredible parent to my future children one day, just as he is to me.
My dad has a way with words that can change your whole life. He is so impactful. Those who have the honor of knowing him are thankful. He is truly the most godly man I know. I have no doubt that we will stay as close as we are forever because when he has a relationship, he works every day to show that relationship the love and care it needs to grow. I love my dad!

It is easy to hear the love Sophia has for her father and the way he has marked her life. She talks of his support, guidance, and wisdom — traits that many fathers share. Fathers not only invest in who we are but also lovingly guide us toward who we are meant to be. We are not all so lucky to have an earthly father, but every one of us has a heavenly Father who is eager to love us in the same way.
