Inspirations on “Writing” (Part 3)

by Candice Cardenas

“[And] is a significant word in the acronym because it is important for connecting two very essential ideas of BEAUTY: earnestly and ultimately. Although informing the future, earnestly suggests resolve and fervency in a present moment or season.” AND

When I read the above statement it immediately reminds me of “writing”. This idea of connecting the future and the present is constantly on my mind as a writer. I must always be thinking of where the story is going, how to keep the reader intrigued enough to turn to the next page, and how to reveal information like a bread crumb trail to the end. However, at the same time I must always be present in the scene I am writing. I have to be present with what the characters are going through at that specific moment in time. If I think too much about the future, the story will fall flat. After all, what is a road trip without the scenery? The scenery, in this case, would be those moments we love to read over and over again. What makes us excited when a hero wins is the fact that we’ve been present with this hero throughout their entire journey.

Writing has taught me the importance of balancing the focus of the future while valuing the present. Having future goals and dreams is what God uses to help me not to be overwhelmed and to find the strength and endurance to persevere. However, He has also taught me to not let the future consume my every intention. He has shown me that there are also many beautiful moments in the present that can easily be missed. Therefore, I earnestly pursue the dreams He has placed in my heart while appreciating and finding just as much fullfilment in my present journey.
