Inspirations on Creative Arts (Part 2)

THE ARTIST

It has always caught my heart that in the Bible in the book of Exodus that God tells Moses to call together the artists and those skilled in creating to come together and build the beautiful elements of the tabernacle. I tend to believe that everyone has a bit of artist in them. I have created productions where I recruited people who had never expressed themselves through Dance or Acting, and by the end of the rehearsal period they had this artistry coming out of them that they never knew they had. Additionally, I have seen men and women do incredibly creative things with numbers, gardens, nature, animals, science, and all manner of life and just about any working of the human mind and emotion. I also believe that there are those whose great calling is to be a Creative Artist. In my own life, this is expressed in many different facets. I love to act on stage. I particularly love performing Shakespeare. There is something about speaking those words that is invigorating to me. Every time I do I learn something new which uniquely allows for many opportunities to perform the same character, because each time you learn more about them and can tell more of their story in your performance. I equally adore directing and producing. The enigmas and challenges that arise in those positions are completely enjoyable to me. There isn’t a moment of the blood, sweat, and tears that goes into it that I don’t truly find all together full of purpose. I feel myself coming alive in that place. That’s not to say that there aren’t some really tough moments, sad mistakes, and difficult things. It’s just that the joy of doing outweighs the pain. I know that I am made to do these things. There are many artists that feel the same way. In fact, it is my opinion that outside of philanthropic work, artists are part of a rare group that will publicly say that they feel like they were made to do what they do. So interesting isn’t it? There is something about experiencing the anointing of God in artistry that even those who don’t know Him would say, “I am made to do this.” For those of us that do know Him, we uniquely experience His Presence in it. Just like Eric Liddell says in the 1981 film Chariots of Fire, “I feel God’s pleasure when I run”, I know that I have been made to be creative because whenever I am expressing that anointing in my life, I feel the pleasure of God. I would put to you the question, in what expression of who you are do you feel His pleasure? What is it that bubbles out of the depths of you that leaves you feeling like you were born for such an expression? I believe that in answering this question, the Art of your life will be expressed.
