Inspirations on “Writing” (Part 1)
By Candice Cardenas
“When we are being, we are embracing the core of who we are with the knowledge that God does indeed know us, give us identity, and deeply love us.” BEING
“Being” is one of the fundamental concepts of writing. Whether you’re writing a story, a blog, or an academic paper, you are expressing yourself. You are expressing your present emotions, opinions, or thoughts. Being a creative writer myself, I find that even though the stories I write are fictional, they are rooted in the truth of who I am. My stories eventually come together to represent my point of view and the emotions I feel. In fact, I do my best work when I am truly connected to my present self.
Writing comes from the deepest part of who I am and, as such, can be a very therapeutic process. While it may at first seem like an escape, in truth, writing is another way to face my emotions. While not all the characters may reflect my personal feelings or beliefs, they often are rooted in a truth. What I mean by this is that they could represent a certain personality I am dealing with at the time or even a struggle I have faced.
Given the above quote, it comes as no surprise to me that I feel the presence of God so deeply when I write. This is because it is in this process of self-expression, of “being”, that I feel known by Him. I look to Him for inspiration, I come to that creative space being my most vulnerable self and He meets me there. In that place He not only reveals Himself, but also what I am capable of.
